This is something that every Angry Birds fan needs to hear, the fact that should you have downloaded the new Angry Birds Space release from Rovio over the past few weeks, you could be at risk of infection on your mobile gaming device after it was reported that the game has given Malware warnings to analysts.
According to the reports that followed the announcement of the possible infestation, the Malware that was found deep within the game was able to “wreck havoc” on the device in which it was contracted and is known to be a new form of Malware, named ‘Legacy Native (LeNa)’.
We must point out that this Malware is not restricted to just Angry Birds Space and that it has been found in a number of top apps that are open to the public so this issue is not based within apps that are coming out of Rovio alone but the fact that Malware such as ‘LeNa’ would be able to access the data given by your mobile device is a scary though for anyone that has the software on their gaming device.
Lookout, the mobile security firm that has brought the Malware to light has revealed that the ‘LeNa’ Malware was not configured to be a malicious software as standard, instead it was designed to entice users into allowing the full force of the Malware to take effect through the acceptance of becoming a super-user.
The Malware has been revealed as possessing the power to be able to create a binary file on the device that holds the infection so that it can install additional software into the memory of the device without user interaction, literally giving the creators the chance to be able to upload apps to your phone without any notification being given to the owner of the mobile handset or tablet computer.
Although there could be a stage of panic following the news that ‘LeNa’ has breached the borders of some mobile devices, Lookout revealed that the infection needed root access to be able to be given the full power that it requires to be able to function in the way that it was designed, so the majority of you that have downloaded the apps that contain the Malware will not be at a huge amount of risk, unless your device has granted full access to the Malware software.
Lookout have advised Android users that they are the most likely to have contracted the Malware infection and have said that you should be looking out for unusual happenings on your device as this would signal that you have been infected with the Malware and that it is taking action to implement additional software into the memory of the device.
