Well it was only going to be a matter of time before this news was going to happen but no one would have thought that it was going to come this soon after release, Angry Birds Space has been knocked off the top spot within the app market downloads ladder following the huge social buzz that has shot ‘DrawSomething’ into technology stardom in the recent month.
The success of the original version of Angry Birds, developed by Finnish based Rovio, lead many to believe that the sequel release, Angry Birds Space, would offer a huge amount of interest within the gaming sector and with more than 10 million downloads in under a week of release, things looked good for the Finnish based company but things have taken a dramatic turnaround.
‘DrawSomething’ a drawing application that has been modelled on the timely classic game Pictionary has shot to fame following its release onto Facebook and millions of gamers have been downloading the game to their social networking profile in order to compete with other social users as to who can guess what they have drawn but the social buzz has resulted in a much bigger effect than millions of drawings appearing on the user’s walls.
The knock on effect of the huge social presence of the game has lead to millions of downloads of the mobile app version of the title, which has now reached more than 50 million downloads since release, a figure so big that it has been confirmed as being large enough to take the number one spotlight away from the Angry Birds Space title that was so anticipated and has created a buzz of its own.
Just like with the new Angry Birds release, there are both free and paid versions of the app that are available to download and sensationally the title has been given enough interest to be able to dominate both the paid and free app charts according to iTunes.
The Draw Something game was identified as a great app that not only offered people the chance to be able to pass the time but also to interact with their friends and family to help them too enjoy the time that they have spare during the day but engaging in a game of a classic family favourite that still has a place in many households.
According to the stats that support the application, there have been more than 6 BILLION drawings created since the app went onto public release and with Facebook, Android and iOS all offering compatibility for the app, it will come as no surprise that the number of drawings related back to a staggering 3,000 creations each and every second!
The game has certainly been well received by the masses within the gaming market but it was seen as an app that carried huge potential from the moment that the game was released into the mobile community, so much potential that mobile gaming giants Zynga bout the developer of the title for a reported $180 million, a price that is quickly beginning to look like a bargain.
