Twitter Opportunists Exploit ‘Draw Something’ Success For Personal Gain

One of the most popular apps for mobile devices, Draw Something, has become a target of a sea of marketing survey scams after a string of people have taken to social networking giant Twitter to exploit those that have posted images that they have created while using the application.

According to sources, the gangs of users have been looking for users of the application in a bid to contact them with the promise of winning a prize for their portrait, some abusers telling those artists that they are guaranteed to win a prize of over $500 value as long as they answer all three of the questions found on the domain DrawSomethingWinner.com.

Once the users reaches the DrawSomethingWinner.com site, they are greeted with a message that reads:

“Congratulatiuons Draw Something Fan. You have been randomly selected!” and informs the visitor that they can unlock their free prize worth over $500 by answering just three basic questions.

Research was undertake on the scam following reports that were make to security firm Sophos and their senior technology consultant Graham Cluley exposed the scam by saying that the chances of receiving the ‘Free Gift’ that the site claims to offer are ‘remote’ and that you should avoid the filling in details on the site.

Cluley stated that users were open to security breaches should they provide the creators with personal information and that at the very best case, you would simply be rewarding the creator of the site through the commission payments that they will receive from the surveys being completed.

A closer look at the DrawSomethingWinner.com site shows that it travels through a number of redirections that inform you of different prizes that you have ‘won’ before heading all visitors back to a single page that offers the questions that you are expected to fill out in order to ‘win’ your prize.
